CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

DEADLINE 15 NOVEMBER 2010

Instructions for Speakers

SPEAKERS IN SYMPOSIA AND THEMATIC SESSIONS
LCD projectors and lap-tops will be provided in all rooms where oral sessions are scheduled. Speakers in symposia and thematic sessions are requested to download their presentations (e.g. PowerPoint) BEFORE the start of the session in which they are presenting. Presenters are strongly recommended to arrive in their scheduled symposium/session room and download their presentation a minimum of 20 minutes before their sessions. A speaker preview room will be available during the meeting and is located in room K6. It opens on Wednesday at 08.00 and stays open throughout the meeting. Speakers are requested to use this facility before the session to ensure that the presentation is saved in the correct format.

COMPUTERS IN SESSION ROOMS
The computers in the session rooms will be equipped with Windows 7 & PowerPoint 2010. If you prefer to use your MAC, there will be a switch and a VGA cable to connect it with. Please don't forget to bring your VGA adapter, since Mac have 4 or 5 different monitor output types.

SESSION CHAIRS
Please ensure that you and your symposium/session speakers are available in you presentation room at least 20 minutes before the session starts. Persons chairing sessions are requested to stay in the session from start to end, to ensure that each talk does not exceed the allocated 20 minutes (including discussion), and to moderate discussions.

POSTER PRESENTERS
Posters sessions are scheduled on Wednesday 13, Thursday 14, Friday 15, and Saturday 16. There is only one poster session each day, and all posters are displayed throughout the whole day in which they are scheduled. Poster set-up begins at 8.30 each day, and take-down must be completed at 18.30. Please note that any posters not removed by this time will be discarded. The first author of the poster is expected to be present by the poster during a specific time during the lunch hour (for exact times each day, see program).

The Scientific Committee of the European Association of Social Psychology invites submissions of proposals for posters, individual oral presentations, and symposia to be presented at the 16th General Meeting, 12-16 July 2011, in Stockholm, Sweden. We welcome proposals on all topics of social psychology.

Please note that it is only possible to be the presenting author for one abstract: Only one abstract per presenting author can be accepted. Symposia convenors are responsible for verifying that presenting authors in their symposia are not presenting authors in other submissions. It is, however, possible to be a co-author on more than one presentation and to be both presenting author and discussant in a symposium.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF POSTERS AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS

All abstracts should be submitted no later than 15 November 2010 via the submission portal

Abstracts cannot be submitted by fax, hard copy or e-mail.

Acknowledgement of submission will be sent to the e-mail address stated under section "Correspondence details". If you do not receive an e-mail within 24 hours your submission was not completed and needs to be re-submitted. Authors are responsible for keeping the e-mail indicated in this section active until they have received feedback about the submission.

The corresponding author will receive all correspondence concerning the submission and is responsible for informing the other authors of the status of the submission.

When submitting, please indicate which one of the following topics best describes the topic of your abstract:

  • Social cognition
  • Attitudes, emotion and motivation
  • Interpersonal processes
  • Group processes
  • Intergroup relations

Please indicate a title, with a maximum of 100 characters, for your proposed presentation.

Abstracts must be written in English and have a maximum of 1500 characters (including spaces)

Accepted abstracts will be published electronically on the web site of the meeting.

Submissions must also include a short version of the abstract (maximum 250 characters). Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of the long abstract, but this will not be printed in the program book. Instead, the program book will include the short abstracts of the accepted submissions.

A minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 keywords is required.

It is the author's responsibility to submit a correct abstract; accepted abstracts will be reproduced as submitted, including possible errors.

You can follow the progress of your abstract online by using your Personal Page. The login details for the personal page are provided in the confirmation e-mail. Your personal page makes it possible for you to:

  • make changes/updates until the submission deadline,
  • read and print your abstract, and
  • follow the status of your submitted abstract.

Presenting authors of accepted abstracts must register for the conference. Presentations by unregistered presenting authors will be excluded from the program.

When submitting your proposal, please be prepared to attend the full 4 days of the meeting. No requests for changes to the program schedule can be accommodated.

If a presenting author is unable to attend the meeting, the presenting author must contact the scientific committee in writing to either withdraw the abstract or propose a substitute speaker who is not already presenting author of another paper.

CONTENT GUIDELINES

The title must be concise and clearly describe the content of the work.

An ideal abstract should clearly indicate whether the talk proposed is a theoretical or an empirical talk:
For theoretical talks, abstracts should clearly and briefly indicate the point being made, the model proposed, and how it relates to existing models in the same area of study.
For empirical talks, abstracts must indicate the goals of the study or studies, methods used, the most important results, and the most important conclusions. For empirical talks, abstracts must refer to already collected data. Abstracts referring to studies that have not yet been concluded will not be considered.

Abstracts must be ready for online publication, if accepted.

Abstracts will be evaluated on the following criteria: novelty, significance of contribution to existing knowledge in social psychology, soundness and appropriateness of methodology, and overall clarity of presentation.

Selection among high quality submissions will also be determined by the general goals of achieving a diverse and well balanced program.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF SYMPOSIA

Symposia can include 4-5 presentations in total, including a possible discussant. Please note that all presentations will be awarded the same time (20 minutes, including questions and discussion), irrespective of how many presentation are included in the symposia.

Symposia submissions must include one abstract describing the overall goals of the symposia and one abstract for each talk included in the symposia (except for potential discussants).

On the symposia submission page you:

  1. Enter the title of the symposia
  2. Enter the abstract of the symposia
  3. Attach the abstracts for each talk as one word document and please number each abstract in the word file in the order they appear, from 1 to 5.
  4. The word file should include the abstracts (1500 characters) and the short description of the abstracts (250 characters) and the abstract authors of each abstract with the presenting author underlined.

Except for this difference, the aforementioned guidelines for posters and individual oral presentations also apply here. Should the symposia be rejected by the scientific committee the individual abstracts will be reviewed as single abstract submission and still have the chance of making it into the programme.

Symposia convenors are responsible for certifying that all speakers in their symposia have registered for the conference. Presentations by non-registered speakers will be excluded from the program

Although the same individual can be a co-organizer of, or a discussant in, more than one symposium, please be ware that this might play a role in the selection decisions. If hard decisions need to be made, including as many people as possible in the programme is an important criterion.
